How can YOU save lives at your desk?

August 23, 2011

Starting in October 2011, Donate Life Illinois is revitalizing the Workplace Partners Campaign in an effort to register organ and tissue donors in offices, factories or wherever workers go to keep our economy rolling. The Workplace Partners Campaign is a collaborative venture that teams Donate Life Illinois and workplaces across Illinois in a joint effort to save lives through organ and tissue donation.

Since the Campaign was launched in 2006, the number of registered organ and tissue donors in Illinois has increased to nearly 6
million people. But there’s more work to be done. More than 110,000 Americans—nearly 5,000 of them in Illinois—are desperately waiting for lifesaving organ transplants.  Last year, the wait went on too long for more than 300 Illinois residents who died while waiting for a transplant. We must do more. And that’s where the Workplace Partners Campaign comes in.

Workplaces across Illinois have recognized the need for more registered donors and have decided to step up to help. Many organizations are volunteering to host Virtual Donor Drives to educate their staffs about the importance of registering as organ and tissue donors. We’re calling on more companies to follow their lead.

Hosting a Virtual Donor Drive takes just three easy steps:

  1. Visit Donate Life Illinois to join the campaign.
  2. Set a registration goal for your company.
  3. Send an e-mail (usually from the Human Resources or Communications Department) to your company’s entire staff with a call to action to join the Illinois Organ/Tissue Donor Registry.

Each organization that registers as a Workplace Partner will be given a unique, workplace-specific, online “microsite” that lets organizations:

  • Track how many employees register as donors and monitor the organization’s progress toward their registration goal.
  • Share inspiring messages on why they registered as organ and tissue donors.
  • Tap rich information resources on organ and tissue donation.

Visit DonateLifeWorkplace.org to surf the Workplace Partners Web site and learn more about the Workplace Partners Campaign. If you have questions about the Campaign or would your organization like to enroll, contact Workplace Partners Campaign Manager Josh Muller at jmuller@giftofhope.org or 630/758-2743.

#MorgansFeat

June 20, 2011

Morgan D’Organ, the Donate Life Illinois mascot, is traveling across America to bring the lifesaving message of organ and tissue donation to people’s front doors. He will be at fairs, festivals, sporting events, concerts, etc. If there’s an event for Morgan to promote donation and get people to register as organ and tissue donors, he will find it!

Morgan and his team of donation experts.

Throughout the summer, you can track Morgan on both Facebook and Twitter. For a complete list of events Morgan is attending, go to the Donate Life Illinois Facebook Page and click on the “Morgan’s Mission” tab.

Morgan leaving for his 2011 summer tour!

Morgan also will take over the Donate Life Illinois Twitter account (@DonateLifeIL) to share updates from the road. Check the hashtag #MorgansFeat to find updates and photos of Morgan’s expeditions. Although Morgan is sporting some pretty awesome kicks these days, the pictures won’t just be of Morgan’s toes. (We’re talking “feat” here, folks, not “feet.”) They will feature Morgan LIVE and in
action as he tries to accomplish an AMAZING FEAT!

The one and only Mini Morgan in Denver learning about organ and tissue donation.

What is this amazing feat? Morgan wants to help register 100 million Americans as organ and tissue donors by the end of 2011. Currently, more than 94 million Americans already have made the decision to give life through organ and tissue donation. Morgan wants to get 6 million more in just six months!

You can help Morgan achieve his goal by registering your decision to be an organ and tissue donor at DonateLifeIllinois.org. You also can help by fanning Donate Life Illinois on Facebook or following on Twitter.

Commuting with a Cause: Part II

May 13, 2011

Donate Life Illinois and the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) recently partnered to build awareness of organ and tissue donation in Chicago. During April, CTA riders were greeted by persuasive ads that encouraged them to register their decision to be organ and tissue donors. In addition, Donate Life Illinois took over the Washington/Wells “L” stop and displayed ads throughout the concourse and platform.

Check out our ads below:

Did you see these ads while traveling on the CTA?  If so, tell us where you saw them and share your thoughts about them on our Facebook Fan Page or tweet us at @DonateLifeIL.

And if you’re not a registered organ and tissue donor already, don’t forget to register your decision today at DonateLifeillinois.org.
