Last month, we had the pleasure of meeting up with local heart transplant recipient Melissa Simon to shoot our forthcoming video, Open-Hearted. This whole video thing comes quite naturally to Melissa as she helped us out this past April with our “I Heart Organ Donors” video.
Melissa has quite the amazing story. June marked the two year anniversary since she received her lifesaving heart transplant. When Melissa received a letter from her donor’s parents, the letter was accompanied by a origami bird that included the words “open hearted.” Friends of Melissa’s donor, Chloe, had put together origami pieces for Chloe’s parents to help them remember her. The bird motivated Melissa to write a letter to Chloe expressing her appreciation for her new gift.
We’re currently editing the video and look forward to showing everyone the final product. In the meantime, here are some behind-the-scenes photos from the video shoot and be sure to check out Melissa’s post on the topic!

Hi, Looking forward to seeing the finished product, I’m sure it will be wonderful. To Melissa – so sorry I missed and did not recognize your two year anniversary of receiving the “gift of life”. Although you may not know it, you’re the closest thing I have to knowing what the girl who received Dylan’s heart is going through and what she may feel. The timing between you receiving and Dylan giving are close and thank you for sharing with me.
Take care!
Hey Scott! I’m just now finding this post via the Ning Site Link! Thanks for putting up with me for one day and saying I’m a natural. I met with Jane yesterday who saw the rough draft of the video and she said it’s such a tribute to Chloe’s life! WOW, that’s the reaction I hope to get from everyone who sees it. To Dan, Dylans heart is safe and my hope for you is word from the recipient soon. Maybe very soon since it’s been 2 years for them now.
