Hi Folks,
I wanted to take a quick second to tell you about National Donor Sabbath. Taking place the weekend of Nov. 10-12, National Donor Sabbath is an interfaith celebration of the gifts of hope provided through organ and tissue donation.
Nearly all religions in the United States support organ and tissue donation as one of the highest expressions of compassion and generosity. Yet, a common reason families give when they choose not to donate a loved one’s organs and tissues is “donation is against my religion.” In fact, a Gallup poll showed that fewer than 10 percent of people in the United States are aware that their religions have doctrines regarding donation.
Houses of worship across Illinois are taking action this year by handing out donor registration cards, discussing organ donation and encouraging congregation members to register and re-register to be part of the new registry. We’ve set up a convenient site at www.giftofhope.org/nds that provides info on National Donor Sabbath and contact info for ordering registration cards if anyone in Illinois would like their faith community to participate.
Hope all is well,
Scott
